Blogger Of The Week: Cats and Vodka

Hello!
It's the time again..
It's our 'Blogger Of The Week' interview.

Every week we will interviewing some of our favourite Edinburgh based bloggers and giving you guys the chance to hear all about their passion and inspiration.

This week we interviewed the wonderful Alex from Cats and Vodka

Alex is beauty blogger who is based in good old Edinburgh. We just love her honestly in her reviews and her beauty tips are fantastic!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I wasn't inspired by any one thing to start blogging but mainly through not having a creative outlet. I missed having something to do that was totally mine and wasn't going to be graded by someone. My blog was for me to write and let off steam really.

Where do you get the inspiration for your posts?

I'll see something and it'll trigger a title or an image and thats it, I've got my idea and eventually it turns into a post.

What post are you most proud of?

Thats a toughie! I'd say definitely my Alex Vs Body Confidence post. It was a crazy personal post that I got so much good feedback on and people really related to it which was amazing.

What's the biggest tip you would give to someone starting out?

Enjoy what you're blogging about, if youre in it for the free stuff and the attention it just isn't going to work.

What do you do when you are not working on your blog?

When I'm not networking on my blog I'm usually thinking about my next post or what I could be doing on my blog haha

Can you recommend any blogs to check out?

Blogs I recommend: Fine and Dandy by Claire, gh0stparties, my pale skin and all my Edinburgh girls!

What do you love most about Edinburgh?

I love the feel of Edinburgh, the old buildings, the architecture, everything is beautiful.

Blogger Of The Week: Boldly Gold

Hello!
It's time for another 'Blogger Of The Week' interview.

Every week we will be interviewing some of our favourite Edinburgh loving bloggers and giving you guys the chance to hear all about their passion!

This week we got to the interview the very talented Amy from Boldly Gold

Amy is DIY loving blogger who is currently based in Glasgow, but is originally from just outside of Edinburgh. From sewing to baking to awesome nail art. She has you covered on all things crafty.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I don’t know if I would say I was inspired to start, it was more out of necessity! I moved to Glasgow in July 2012 with my boyfriend because of work. I didn’t really know anyone in the city so in my spare time I would fiddle around with crafts and got really into it! I think I’ve had about 6 random blogs over the years, littering the internet, so there was always something in me that wanted to share what I was doing, and Boldly Gold was a natural progression of that. Thankfully this one has stuck it out!

Where do you get the inspiration for your posts?

Without a doubt I’m inspired by other craft bloggers. The minute I see someone creating something wonderful my brain goes into overdrive thinking about my next project!

What post are you most proud of?

Definitely the clothes I’ve made so far. I’m still astounded that they are even wearable!

What's the biggest tip you would give to someone starting out?

Don’t underestimate the importance of photos, especially when you’re showing something handmade! You don’t need a fancy camera to take brilliant blog photos but good lighting really helps. Taking photos in natural daylight makes all the difference and don’t be afraid to put them through an editing program. Pic Monkey is a great, free website that has lots of editing tools available and it’s really easy to use.

What do you do when you are not working on your blog?

I’m going steady with my Netflix account.

Can you recommend any blogs to check out?

The world of blogging is so diverse now that there is something for everyone! Some of my favourites creative ones are Dolly Clackett, Iheart Organising, and Live Love DIY.

What do you love most about Edinburgh?

I think Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world! My favourite thing though is that it’s steeped in history. Is there another city in the world that can boast as many famous inventors and murderers in equal measures? Where else can you enjoy a drink above a tomb of plague victims? Gruesome but glorious.

Blogger Of The Week: Elegance Lies

Hello.
It's time for our 'Blogger Of The Week' interview.
In case you missed last week...

(make sure you check it out here)

Each week we will be interviewing our favourite Edinburgh based bloggers. Getting to hear all about their passion.

This week we interviewed the ever so stylish Agita from http://www.elegancelies.com/

Agita is a gorgeous Latvian fashion blogger who is studying Fashion Technology.
Her pictures, as you can see above, are just flawless!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I had always been interested to write, but wanted to try something different than my notebook, so elegance lies started of as me just putting down my ramblings about a very typical teenagers life. It didn't really have any point at the start, because I started when I was 16, but later on it turned into a fashion blog as that was the course that my life took.

Where do you get the inspiration for your posts?

It is going to sound cheesy, but mostly get inspired from life. If it is relevant, I blog about it. I could never be that blogger who puts on a special outfit, just for those 30 minutes of shooting, it needs to be for an event, or just for university, it has to be useful, otherwise I would feel like a cheat. Also, I think it is very easy to tell if that blog post came to life by itself or was forced just because you NEED a new blog post. And, of course, I like to take a peek in other people's blogs, it is always interesting to see what kind of ideas others have come up with.

What post are you most proud of?

It's hard to tell, there have been so many blog posts on elegance lies during 5 yearss, but one of them the most definitely has to be my rant of a blog post "Why I don't feel like blogging anymore?". It was on that point after a few work experiences in fashion sector in Latvia before I went to university here, and I was so disappointed by what I had experienced. The chaos and "fakeness" of fashion back home had me so depressed I didn't want to do anything fashion related any more, so I kind of exploded through a blog post and many people hated me for blogging something so true and harsh(had a few hate comments) and a lot of people liked it for the fact that someone finally said what most of the people were thinking. So, I have to be the most proud about that one, because it definitely gave me some "ballsyness" points

What's the biggest tip you would give to someone starting out?

Enjoy it. Once you start out you can literally blog whatever comes to your mind, explore every possible direction, whether that is writing diy blog posts or street style, or who wore it better blog posts. Once you develop a certain amount of followers you kind of know the thing they like to read and can kind of burn yourself with very strong minded blog posts, as someone will almost always not like your opinion. I wish I could go back to that starting point where my teenage sarcasm had no filter, it was way easier to blog back then.

What do you do when you are not working on your blog?

My blog is actually one of the things I try to squeeze in between all the other things I do. As I am a fashion technology student and work on my off days for a tailor in Edinburgh, I don't really have a single day of the week off, but currently my life goes around new design and sewing projects, also sketching, either on illustrator or actual paper, and somewhere between that I try to squeeze in some photography. It is a huge creative bubble I live in outside my blog and by the time I will get to my Christmas holidays, I can bet I will be a creative carrot, drained of any ideas.

Can you recommend any blogs to check out?

I am not very good in sourcing new bloggers as I am just a bit lazy for that, but I really like http://www.amyvalentine.co.uk/ as her outfit blog posts are always interestingly put together.

What do you love most about Edinburgh?

I am a very visual person and I have been passionate about photography every since i first got my hands on a camera when I was 12, and Edinburgh is literally the most photogenic city I have ever been to. It doesn't matter if it rains, snows or is extremely sunny, Edinburgh always mesmerises me, and even with my 3rd year being here, I still always look outside the window when I am in the public transport or car, rather than read a book, because it is so beautiful.
